How do I join Queer Voices Glasgow?

When can I join?

Queer Voices Glasgow runs regular Open Rehearsals. These are aimed at beginners and new members, and are a chance for those new to Queer Voices Glasgow or new to singing, to come along and get a feeling of what it's like singing in Queer Voices Glasgow.

The next open rehearsal is on XXXXXXXX

We are open for new members until XXXXX

What are rehearsals like?

Weekly rehearsals take place on Friday evenings in Glasgow Southside. Rehearsals always start with a physical and vocal warm up, which gets us ready for singing.

At rehearsals, we may work on some pieces that we are learning 'just for fun' or build towards a set of songs that we can use in performances.

All rehearsals are aimed at all levels of singers, whether you're a complete beginner or have been singing in choirs for years you will be able to access the music. We have sheet music and lyric sheets available and all of our music is taught by ear.

In the middle of each rehearsal we have a tea and biscuit break, which is a great chance to socialise with other members. After rehearsals, many members head to a nearby pub to continue socialising!

Do I need to audition?

No. There are no auditions necessary to join Queer Voices Glasgow. For many of our members, Queer Voices Glasgow was their first experience of choral singing.

All we ask is that you enjoy singing, and come along regularly :)

Can I perform?

Queer Voices Glasgow takes part in a number of performances and we often work towards our own concerts. These are a great way to share the music we've been making with family, friends and loved ones.

Performances are completely optional. If it's not for you, you are welcome to come along and enjoy the singing!

How much does it cost?

Queer Voices Glasgow operates on a pay-what-you-can model, with a suggested weekly donation of £5 to support the choir's running costs. Your first rehearsal is always free.

We'd much rather have you than your money, and if you can't afford the donation, that is not a barrier to joining us.

To find out more about donations, head to our donate page.

Can I volunteer?

For existing members there are opportunities to volunteer to support the running of Queer Voices Glasgow.

The Committee is an annually elected group which organises rehearsals, performances and the day-to-day running of Queer Voices Glasgow. Beyond the committee, many of our members get involved in helping out, from baking and making, to driving and fundraising.
